Biased Judgement?

Unfortunately (or rather fortunately), i wasn't able to make it to MAYA inter-varsity dance competition 2010 which was held in Limkokwing University last Saturday.
Was informed by Tharani at 11something that night that results were out.

1st-Limkokwing University, 2nd-APIIT University, 3rd-Masterskill.

I was like damn, 2nd runners up?? Hmmm..sad but i guess maybe the other two teams did better. I mean the judges should know best (expecting credible panel of judges like last year when we had Venkat Prabhu and Linda Jasmine etc)

All was well..UNTIL the dance videos came up on Youtube.

I saw all the team's performance. I liked Masterskill, HELP and APIIT the best. I have nothing to comment about Limkokwing's winning performance as i believe all teams have put a lot of hard work for their dance.

What i super tak puas hati about is the judgement, like come on lah, it's freaking obvious there probably has been some hanky panky going on there. Speaking from a very unbiased point of view. I'm not saying that Masterskill should win or whatever but the whole results was rather unsatisfactory. If i were the only one complaining about biased judging, then maybe the problem has to be with me.. But i'm not the only one here, i know of people even from Limkokwing complaining about the judgement.

There have been a few individuals who gave feedback about this in a very civilized manner on MAYA 2010's official Facebook page. Unfortunately, all negative comments were promptly deleted. Why?

I know how much of effort it takes to train for a stage performance like this, the amount of energy, sweat and tears it takes to put up a great dance performance. Trust me when i say. it's not easy. Dancing is not all about gelek sini gelek sana, jump here jump there. It's much much more than that. There are 1001 things to think about. Costume, make up, steps, synchronization, formation, energy, facial expressions, body movement, stunts, suitable song etc.

When a team, any team puts in so much of effort, and do not get the expected results, i know how it feels.  I believe even though participating teams obviously wanted to win the 1st place, what matters most for all the teams is that at the end of the day, there should be fair judging and the team that performed best should win.

I believe the organizers have put in so much effort to put up a show as huge as this. And that deserves a lot of praise. But why let something like this tarnish the organizer's credibility? Instead of saying how good the show was, people were commenting on how unfair they feel the judging was. That basically just ruined the whole event in my opinion. I personally know about a few teams who have lost faith in the credibility of the event and judgment, and are having serious doubts on whether to participate or not for MAYA 2011. This will be a big blow to the event, losing participation from good dance teams.

I'm not writing to kutuk anyone, just venting out my frustration on how the organizers can let such things happen in such a big event. This have indirectly given a bad name to Limkokwing, which shouldn't have happened considering the fact that it's a very reputable institution.

p/s- i am not writing this because I'm an ex-Masterskill student or because i participated in Maya 2009. I'm speaking from a normal person's point of view. Please take note.
